Leroy Vernon Satrang

Leroy Vernon Satrang, 78, of Dakota Dunes, SD, passed away on Tuesday, June 19, 2018 at St. Luke’s Hospital in Sioux City, IA.

Leroy was born on June 12, 1940 to Harry and Ida (Lien) Satrang.  He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith.  Leroy attended country grade school at Nordland #1 and Britton High School.  After graduation, Leroy attended South Dakota State for a year before moving to Minneapolis to work in construction and as a mail carrier.  He enlisted in the United States Army on January 4, 1963.   He was stationed at Camp DeLoges in Paris, France.  He was proud to have served his country.  Leroy returned to South Dakota State University to finish his college education and obtain a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering in May 1970.  He was employed by the City of Sioux City for seven years before starting his own consulting engineering company in January 1984 to December 2003.

Leroy married Anne Grimsrud, the love of his life for 47 years, on April 24, 1971 at First Lutheran Church in Britton, SD.  To this union three children were born, Kari Ida, Elizabeth Erin and Matthew Marvin Leroy Satrang.  Leroy loved his family with his whole heart and his five wonderful Grandchildren, Noah, Brody, Abbie, Ellie and Shelby who were a lift for his spirit and a joy for his heart.

Leroy loved to play and watch sports, especially the Chicago Cubs, Minnesota Twins, and the Golden State Warriors, mostly Kevin Durant.  He enjoyed playing softball when his children were younger and golfing with his son, Matt.  He also was an avid reader of news and mysteries and enjoyed watching good westerns.  Most of all, Leroy loved watching his grandchildren in their various activities and was their number one fan!

Left to mourn his passing are his wife Anne, his three children; Kari (Craig) Dickman, Elizabeth (Steven) Eason, and Matt Satrang, brother Luverne (Karen) Satrang, sister Carolyn Andrews and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, grandparents, several aunts, uncles, cousins and niece, Jill Satrang.  Leroy will be forever missed by his whole family.
