Lawrence “Larry” Henry Schlichting, 75, of Cherokee, IA passed away on Tuesday, June 20, 2023 after being involved in a motorcycle accident.
Larry was born August 1, 1947 in Worthington, Minnesota to Jesse and Dorothy Schlichting. He has 2 older siblings, Nina (Schlichting) Dorr, Dennis “Red” Schlichting and a younger brother, Patrick Schlichting. He graduated from Washington High School in Cherokee, IA. He was drafted into the Army during the Vietnam War. Upon his return he joined his father in a locally owned business, Jesse’s Fine Meats. He eventually took over the business and it was renamed Jesse’s meats. He developed a processing technique for Philly steak, which he licensed to McDonald’s and then later sold his business along with the processing rights.
He married Rosalie “Rosie” Flanagan in 1970 and they had three children. He was a devoted father and proudly kept up with all the activities his grandchildren were involved in. Larry loved to ride motorcycles and was always up to date on owning the lastest Ford trucks. He was involved in trapshooting and enjoyed spending time at Lake Okoboji on a boat or jet ski.
Larry is survived by his children Nikki (Joe) Kardouni of Fayetteville, NC; Dan Schlichting of Eldridge, IA; and Andy (Jodi) Schlichting of Cherokee, IA. He also has 4 grandchildren, Savannah Kardouni, Alex Kardouni, Ty Schlichting, and Madi Schlichting.

Visitation will be held from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Friday night at the Greenwood-Schubert Funeral Home in Cherokee.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 24, 2023, at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Cherokee, Iowa

Oak Hill Cemetery
Burial will take place at Oak Hill Cemetery in Cherokee. Military rites will be conducted by the Cherokee V.F.W. L.A. Wescott Post 2253 and the American Legion.
