Lawrence J. Crist the son of Benedict and Margaret (Martini) Crist, was born September 29, 1926, in Adrian, MN. His childhood years were spent in Ellsworth, MN where he attended school and graduated from Ellsworth Catholic School. On November 18, 1950, Lawrence was united in marriage to Jeanine Koobs in Adrian, MN. He started his career with the Illinois Central Railroad where he worked as a brakeman and worked his way up to conductor. Later in his career with the railroad, Lawrence was elected to the United Transportation Union based in Des Moines, IA where he represented the railroad unions throughout the state of Iowa. In 1992, he retired and moved back to Cherokee. Lawrence was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus. He liked to tinker with various projects. He enjoyed pheasant hunting, western books and movies, and helping anyone he could. Later in life he enjoyed golf. Most of all Lawrence enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. On November 7, 2017, Lawrence passed away at a Sioux City hospital at the age of 91. He was preceded in death by his parents, Benedict and Margaret Crist; his wife, Jeanine Crist In 1993; two brothers and one sister. He is survived by his two sons, Mike Crist of Boonville, MO, and Kevin (Nancy) Crist of Athens, OH; grandchildren, Audrey and Kena Crist; great-grandson, Kieran Crist- Kenworthy; and several nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
SERVICES
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, November 11, 2017, at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Cherokee.
