LaVonne Delores (Hurd) Paslay, the daughter of Raymond and Emma (Anderson) Hurd, was born December 31, 1926 in Cherokee, IA. The family lived in rural Meriden, IA, where LaVonne attended school and graduated Meriden High School.
She was united in marriage to Robert James Paslay on August 14, 1946. In addition to being a busy mother of three children, LaVonne brought in extra money for the family by baking cakes for just about any occasion. Her cakes were in great demand, and she became known as "The Cake Lady". She also enjoyed knitting, doing crossword puzzles, reading, traveling, and spending quality time with her family.
LaVonne passed away at the Mercy Medical Center on Monday, December 8, 2014, at age 87.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband, Robert Paslay.
Survivors include her children: Linda (Jim) Siple of Le Mars, IA, Dennis (Linda) Paslay of St. Charles, IL, and Debra Payne of Cherokee, IA; 4 grandchildren: Amy Walkingstick, Heidi Nemmers, Josh Payne, and Tyler Paslay; 5 great-grandchildren: Madeline, Hunter, Cade, Evan and Jacob.
