Kerry A. Smith

Kerry A. Smith, the son of Raymond Carl and Lois Wilma (Short) Smith was born February 8, 1955 in Sioux City, IA. His childhood was spent in the Correctionville area and he graduated from Eastwood High School in 1973. Kerry joined the Navy on August 19, 1975 and served on the U.S.S. Henry B. Wilson as a firing technician at the rank of Petty Officer until his honorable discharge on May 11, 1979. After his military service, Kerry spent 10 years as an owner-operator truck driver. Then, needing to be closer to home, he went to work at Simonsen Industries in Quimby where he worked until his death. On March 30, 2001, Kerry was joined in marriage to Freda Brewer Baier in Atlantic, Iowa. The couple made their home in Ida Grove before moving to Cherokee in 2009. Kerry enjoyed photography, model trains, computers and camping. On January 28, 2016, Kerry passed away at the Cherokee Regional Medical Center at the age of 60. He was preceded in death by an infant son Shaun Smith; his father, Raymond Carl Smith; grandparents, uncles, aunts, and cousins. Survivors include his wife, Freda Smith of Cherokee; stepson, Timothy Russell of Fort Dodge, IA; his mother, Lois Smith of Ida Grove; a brother, Steve Smith of Cherokee, IA; sisters, Debra (Mickey) Reits of Ida Grove, IA and Sandra (Leon) Venteicher of Danbury, IA; he is also survived by numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
SERVICES
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, February 1, 2016, at the Greenwood-Schubert Funeral Home in Cherokee.
