Kay Ileen Chettinger

Kay Ileen Chettinger, the daughter of Roy and Katherine (Malone) Frentress, was born on February 4, 1939, at her home in Manchester, IA. She was raised and graduated from Manchester High School. She received a Certificate for Continuing Education in computers from Western Iowa Tech and Bachelors Degree in Accounting from LaSalle University. Kay married Gerald Chettinger on June 18, 1960 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Manchester, IA and celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 2010. They moved several times before residing in Cherokee, Iowa for the last 41 years. Kay was employed as Records Secretary at the University Hospitals in the Psychiatric Unit, head accountant at Coe College, Cedar Rapids, IA, accountant for Dwight Moates Stock Broker, Janitorial/Maintenance Engineer for Immaculate Conception Schools, Dr. Wendell Stoelting, and North Star Credit Union in Cherokee. She was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and Ladies Union. Kay's devotion to God's will was ever present. She loved and lived life. This was demonstrated by how much she enjoyed spending time with her husband, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She was an excellent seamstress, leather craftsman and interior decorator. She and her family loved to travel and spend many vacations camping, sightseeing, and fishing. She loved to garden and tend flowers with Jerry. On January 9, 2011, Kay passed away at Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City, IA, at the age of 71. She was preceded in death by her parents Roy and Katherine Frentress; sister, Minnie Mae Frentress; brother, Ronald Frentress; and father-in-law, Gerald Chettinger. She is survived by her husband, Gerald L. Chettinger of 50 years of Cherokee, IA; one son, Gerald Michael Chettinger and his wife Cindy of Sgt. Bluff, two daughters: Kathryn Parvu and her husband Al, JR. of Sgt. Bluff, IA, and Maria Stines and her partner Steven James of Des Moines, IA; 11 grandchildren: Drew, Kyle, Adam, Lindsey, Jena, Ross, Elijah, Paige, Cassy, Semar, and Skylar; great-grandchildren, Shantai, Lillie, and Raiden and baby. Brothers, Edward and Joan Frentress of Dubuque, IA, and Alvin and Darla Frentress of Earlville, IA, sister-in-law, Agnes Frentress of Des Moines, IA; mother-in-law, Ila Mae Chettinger of Watherloo, IA; one sister-in-law, Carol and Robert Schamberger of Garland, TX; as well as other relatives and many friends. Memorials may be directed to the Iowa Right To Life.
SERVICES
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. Thursday, January 13, 2011, at Holy Name Catholic Church in Marcus.

Visitation will begin at noon on Wednesday, with the family present from 5:00-7:00 P.M. Wednesday night at Greenwood Funeral Home in Cherokee. There will be a prayer service at 7:00 P.M. Wednesday at the funeral home
