Karen Elizabeth Bezoni, lifelong resident of Aurelia, Iowa, passed away peacefully at Accura Healthcare in Cherokee, Iowa. Karen is the daughter of John and Phyllis (Hansen) Agnitsch was born June 22, 1943, in Pipestone, Minnesota. Her childhood years were spent in both Pipestone and Cherokee. She attended Immaculate Conception Catholic School in Cherokee. Karen married her soulmate, James (Jim) Bezoni Sr., on August 21, 1960. They raised their family in Aurelia, Iowa. They were blessed with eight children, one whom died at birth. Karen worked at Sunset Knoll Nursing Home until 1992 when she had surgery and removal of a brain tumor which kept her from going back to work.
Karen was a mother, wife, “gramma”, aunt, sister, friend, and most importantly a woman of faith. Karen was the heart of the Bezoni family. Karen will be missed by all who knew her, as she has touched many lives. She enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren. She loved watching Wheel of Fortune, going for rides with Jim, getting ice cream, and having family get-togethers.
Karen is survived by her husband, Jim Sr, her 7 children, Jim Jr (Stacy) Bezoni of Aurelia, Iowa; Kimm Bezoni (John Seel) of Norwalk, Iowa; Connie Lenz (Mike) of Enid, Oklahoma; Mike (Pam) Bezoni of Cherokee, Iowa; Karla (Chester) Cates of Cherokee, Iowa; Tamie (Doug) Mummert of Cherokee, Iowa; and Billy (Tami) Bezoni of Cherokee, Iowa. She is survived by her brother, Jim (Deb) Agnitsch of Cherokee, Iowa; sister, Patti (John) Riggs of Cherokee, Iowa; and brother-in-law, Buzz (Barb) Bezoni of Mt Pleasant, Iowa. Karen is survived by 17 grandchildren, Spencer Bezoni, Jaime Bezoni, April Schossow, Kasey Kirschbaum, Kodi Lenz, Kelsey Jones, Erica Frey, Tyler Bezoni, Austin Bezoni, Rylee Bezoni, Kendra Mitchell, Jillian Cates, Brittani Cates, BriAnne Cates, Whitney Schroeder, Skyler Mummert, and McKenna Mummert. She is survived by 23 great grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
Karen is preceded in death by her father, John Agnitsch; her mother, Phyllis Agnitsch; her daughter, Bonnie Bezoni; her brothers Jack Agnitsch and Bob Agnitsch; her sister-in-law Donna Hoeppner; her nephew Kevin Agnitsch and her dogs Snowball and Annie.
The family would like to thank Accura Healthcare of Cherokee and Hospice of Cherokee Regional Medical Center and all those who cared for Karen.
Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 31, 2019, at the Memorial Presbyterian Church in Cherokee.
