Joyce E. Pauling

Joyce Emily Pauling, the daughter of George and Josephine (Durmich) Puhrmann was born on August 16, 1932, in Meriden, Iowa. Her childhood years were spent in Cherokee County where she attended school and graduated from Larrabee High School in 1950. She then spent one year at Buena Vista College in Storm Lake. On August 26, 1951, Joyce was united in marriage to DuWayne Pauling. Joyce worked as a homemaker helping to raise their four children. She later worked for AEA 4 for 14 years as a bus driver. Joyce enjoyed sewing, crochet, and dancing. Most of all, she loved being around her family and friends. On July 6, 2011, Joyce passed away at the Heartland Care Center in Marcus at the age of 78. She was preceded in death by her parents; one very special brother-in-law, Arnold Carlson; and one very special sister-in-law, Sylvia Proehl. Joyce is survived by her husband of 59 years, DuWayne Pauling of Paullina, IA; four children: Kent (Terri) Pauling of Le Mars, IA, Cal (Marilyn) Pauling of Spirit Lake, IA, Beth (Patrick) Shea of Cedar Falls, IA, and Dawn (John) Gilles of Sioux City, IA; 14 grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; two step great-grandchildren; one sister, Barbara Carlson of Marcus; one brother, George (Heather) Puhrmann of Licking, MO; as well as several nieces; nephews; other relatives; and friends.
