John “Pump” Antohny McAlpine, the son of Eugene and Ruth (Christopher) McAlpine was born October 25, 1954, in Hartley, IA. His childhood years were spent in Sheldon, IA, where he received his education. Following his education, John worked for many years in the construction business building grain elevators.
John may have looked rough on the outside but had a huge heart. He invented his own way of doing things and will be remembered for his sense of humor. You never knew what he was going to say, and he was also a collector of many things. He always had a saying for everything such as “It’s not bing, bang, boom” and ”If you’re waiting for me- your backing up”
In his free time he enjoyed riding his Harley, tinkering in the garage, shooting guns, and his boat. Most of all, he enjoyed making his grandchildren smile.
On Wednesday, April 24, 2019, John passed away at his home surrounded by his family. He was preceded in death by his parents, Eugene and Ruth McAlpine; and two brothers, Mark McAlpine and Matthew McAlpine.
He will be remembered by his wife, Marlene of Larrabee, IA; daughter, Christina (Isaac) McAlpine of Larrabee, IA; son, Tony McAlpine of Larrabee, IA; grandchildren, Alana, Ezra, and Braxton; and one sister, Mary (Ralph) Wolterman of Garnett, KS; he is also survived by other family and friends.
A Celebration of Life for John will take place at a later date.
