JoAnn Joyce Schmidt

JoAnn Joyce Schmidt, the daughter of John and Claribell (Pearson) Husman, was born on July 22, 1940, near Hinton, IA. Her childhood years were spent in Quimby, IA where she received her education and graduated from Quimby High School in 1958. On June 24, 1961, JoAnn was united in marriage to John Schmidt at Immaculate Conception Church in Cherokee. JoAnn and her husband were owners of the Schmidt Furniture Store in Cherokee for many years until they closed in 1984. That same year they moved to Austin, TX where she worked as a licensed interior decorator for Gage Furniture for 20 years. Most recently, JoAnn had worked for Dillard's Department Store until she retired in 2008. JoAnn was a member of St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Pflugerville, TX. She enjoyed flowers and decorating people's homes, but most of all JoAnn enjoyed being around her family and friends. On February 11, 2010, JoAnn passed away at Christopher House Hospice in Austin, TX, at the age of 69. She was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her husband, John Schmidt of Pflugerville, TX; two sons: Steven Schmidt of Sioux City, IA, and David Schmidt of San Antonio, TX; three grandchildren: Marissa Schmidt, Maya Schmidt, and Blaise Schmidt; four brothers and their wives: Wilfred Husman, and his wife Bonnie, of Marcus, IA, Calvin Husman, and his wife Virginia, of Quimby, IA, John Husman, Jr. and his wife Amy of Spirit Lake, IA, and Ronald Husman, and his wife Maritta, of Sioux Falls, SD; one sister, Rosemary Steffen, and her husband Kell, of Greenville, IA; one sister-in-law, Sue Tallman, and her husband Joe, of Wilmington, DE; as well as several nieces; nephews; other relatives; and friends.
