Janice Schmillen

March 14, 1947 — January 29, 2011

Jan Schmillen, the daughter of Harold and Margaret (Smith) Aringdale, was born March 14, 1947, in Sioux Falls SD. Much of her childhood years were spent in Marathon Iowa. On January 24, 1982, Jan was united in marriage to Dick Schmillen in Cherokee, Iowa. Following their marriage they remained in Cherokee where she diligently worked to help support her family. In the early 1980's she was the Iowa salesperson of the year for Princess House Crystal. Jan was diagnosed with scleroderma where she courageously battled the disease for over 20 years. She endured many tests, surgeries, experimental treatments, and several hospital stays including a kidney transplant in 1993. Jan was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Cherokee. She loved gardening and creating beautiful landscapes. She also had amazing talent with wood working and toll painting. She had an incredible passion for all animals. She was preceded in death by her parents Harold and Margaret Aringdale; two brothers Cecil and Duane Aringdale. Survived by husband Dick Schmillen, Cherokee Iowa; sister Julie McGee, Orange City Iowa; brother LaVern Aringdale, Charles City Iowa; daughter Shelly Stacey, husband Mike, Lincoln Nebraska; their 2 children Sarah Stacey, Omaha Nebraska & Ashley Bennett, husband Tony, and great grandchild Jack, Omaha, Nebraska; son Stacy Sassman, wife Jen, their children Emily and Abby, Waverly, Iowa; son Curtis Schmillen, wife Laurie their children Ellie, Emma ,and Sam, Cottage Grove Minnesota; daughter Kristy Schmillen and son Kaleb, Newport, Minnesota. All memorials received will be donated to the Scleroderma Foundation, in Jan's memory.
SERVICES
Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 A.M. Tuesday, February 1, 2011 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Cherokee.

VISITATION
Visitation will begin at 3:00 P.M. Monday, with the family present from 6:00-8:00 P.M. at Greenwood Funeral Home in Cherokee.
