Janice Lux, the daughter of Joe and Esther (Bond) Determann, was born September 7, 1940, in Ida Grove, Iowa. Her childhood years were spent in Ida Grove where she received her education and graduated from Ida Grove High School in 1959. She excelled in girls basketball in high school and was crowned the 1st girls state basketball tournament queen in 1959. She attended Wayne State College in Wayne, NE and graduated with a LPN degree.
On August 5, 1961 Janice was united in marriage to Joe Lux in Ida Grove, IA. They lived in Cherokee where she worked at the Mental Health Institute for 25 years. She retired in 2000.
Janice enjoyed outdoor activities, skiing, fishing, biking on the Heartland Trail, and loved being "up north". She collected antiques and loved listening to Elvis music. She is best remembered by being a caring person and always taking care of her family.
On December 25, 2009, Janice passed away at her home following a lengthy illness at the age of 69. She was preceded in death by her parents, Joe and Esther Determann; and three sisters: Betty Determann, Peggy Determann, and Mary Jo Determann.
She is survived by her husband, Joe Lux of Cherokee, IA; three daughters: Lynn (Hugh) DeBerg of Jesup, IA, Lora (Clint) Hight of Greenfield, IA, and Kim (Jeff) Bjustrom of Maple Grove, MN; eight grandchildren: Courtney, Molly, Ben, Adam, Lindsey, Rachel, Katie, and Kyle; two brothers: Don (Jeanie) Determann of Dodge City, KS, and Bob Determann of Dodge City, KS; as well as other relatives and friends.
SERVICES
Memorial services will be held at 10:30 A.M., Tuesday, December 29, 2009 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Cherokee, IA.

Visitation will begin on Monday at 3:00 P.M., with the family present from 5:00-7:00 P.M. Monday night. A prayer service will be held at 7:00 P.M. Monday at Greenwood Funeral Home.
