James S. Sunde, the son of Lloyd and Edna (Theesfield) Sunde, was born July 8, 1947, in Algona, IA. His childhood years were spent in Ringsted and Fenton, IA. He graduated from Sentral High School in Fenton in 1965. He then attended Iowa Lakes Community College in Estherville, IA. He served in the U. S. Army1st Recon Squadron, during the Vietnam conflict. He was stationed in Germany for two years before receiving an honorable discharge.
On August 22, 1969, he was united in marriage to Patricia Binder at Ayrshire, IA. They lived in several northwest Iowa communities while Jim worked for various cooperative elevators. He served as manager of the Lytton, Newell, Cleghorn and Cherokee locations. He spent 15 years as a board member for Land O' Lakes--a position he thoroughly enjoyed.
Jim enjoyed fishing, spending time with family and friends, and being outdoors. He was a member of Memorial Presbyterian Church.
On Wednesday, February 12, 2014, Jim passed away in Cherokee at the age of 66.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers-in-law, Jim Petersen and Rich Devers.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Patricia of Cherokee; two daughters, Julie, her husband, Jim Klages and their children, James Jr. and Jeric of Chamberlain, SD, and Jillian, her husband, Chad Brown and their children, Calvin, Amelia and Hayden of Cherokee; three sisters, JoAnn Devers of Littleton, CO, Nancy Petersen of Savage, MN, and Linda (Larry) Geitzenauer of Fenton, IA; one brother, Roger Sunde of Minot, ND; several nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.
SERVICES
Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 15, 2014, at Memorial Presbyterian Church, 127 E. Willow St. in Cherokee.

Visitation will be at Greenwood-Schubert Funeral Home in Cherokee from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. Friday evening, February 14th. The family will be present at that time.
