James E. Bartlett

September 25, 1935 — November 2, 2018

James E. Bartlett, the son of James W. and Effie (Phillips) Bartlett, was born September 25, 1935, in Compton, AR. He grew up in Arkansas, where he attended the local schools.

He eventually made his way to Northwest Iowa, first working as a farmhand in Paullina, and later settling into a 50-year career as a mechanic and radiator repairman for Lubeck Oil in Cherokee. He met his future wife, Helen Cline, and the two were married on June 17, 1956 at Trinity Lutheran Church. Jim enjoyed golfing, bowling and woodworking. He spent many man-hours remodeling their home in different phases through the years. Even into his retirement, people were still calling Jim to do their radiator repair work. Family was very important to him.

On Friday, November 2, 2018, Jim passed away peacefully at his home, surrounded by his family. He was 83. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by five brothers: Joe, Olin, Truman, Hershel and Clayton, and four sisters: Lucy, Jessie, Mary and Pat.

Left  to cherish his memory is his wife of 62 years, Helen, and their daughters: Janet (Gary) Atherton of Pocahontas, IA, and Carol (Lyle) Hundertmark of Ames, IA; grandchildren: Sandra (Jason) Warren, Adam (Whitney) Hundertmark, Grant (Rachel) Atherton, and Sarah Hundertmark (Peter Femal); great-grandchildren: Brayden, Carter, Addison and Avery; brother-in-law, Dale (Caryl Lee) Cline of Cherokee; sisters-in-law, Dorothy Bierman of Cherokee, Norma Dean Stanfill of Edwardsville, IL and Glenda Heithus of Paullina, IA; several nieces and nephews.
