James Arthur Wolcott, the son of Arthur and Lois (Sampson) Wolcott was born July 12, 1932, in Le Mars, Iowa. He attended country school and then Aurelia Schools. Following his education, Jim enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served during the Korean Conflict.
Jim was united in marriage to Virginia Odle on September 8, 1956, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Cherokee. After their marriage they resided in Cherokee, IA, where he went to work for Lundell Construction. He worked there for 30 years before retiring as a foreman.
Jim enjoyed hunting with his hounds, Little Britches Rodeo with Tony, Carla, and Darin, and was the proudest dad when they collected their trophies at the end of the weekend. He later got the race horse bug, and owned and trained race horses in Nebraska and Iowa race tracks. His “wall” of win pictures were probably his most prized possession.
On July 14, 2021, Jim passed away at his residence surrounded by his family at the age of 89. He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Lois Wolcott; in-laws, John and Elsie Odle; one daughter, Kim Wolcott; one son, Tony Wolcott; brothers, Jack and Jerry Wolcott; an infant sister; brothers and sisters-in-law, Bill (Dorinne) Schleef, Cletus (Bernice) Odle, Evelyn Letsche, and Dado Blankenbaker.
He is survived by his wife, Virginia Wolcott of Cherokee, IA, daughter, Carla DeYoung of Cherokee, IA, and son Darin Wolcott of Cherokee, IA; grandson, Brandon (Tiffany) DeYoung; granddaughter, Alyssa (A.J.) Wolcott; daughter-in-law, Marsha Wolcott; sister, Judy Lubrant; sisters-in-law, Pauline Wolcott, Edna Wolcott, and Marcella Blankenbaker; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
