Ivan Louis Bobolz was born June 4, 1942 in Cherokee to Arthur and Elsie (Fagerlund) Bobolz. He grew up on a farm east of Quimby and graduated from Quimby High School in 1960. Upon graduation he farmed and worked as a carpenter with his father and brother. Ivan was a member of the Iowa National Guard and was called to active duty in the Army Infantry in April 1968 and served until August 1969.
On June 17, 1970 he was united in marriage to Shirley Henke at Visitation Church, Maryhill in rural Cherokee County. Ivan had returned to what was eventually his own farm operation and carpentry business and continued that to this day. Together they raised four children in whom they instilled the importance of working hard, laughing harder, being kind to others and appreciating the simple things in life. Ivan enjoyed woodworking, classic cars, sports, and fishing with his grandkids.
Ivan was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Elsie Bobolz; sister, Iva Jean Hackett; brothers-in-law: Darrell Hackett, Roland Wright, and Stephen Cosgrove; and father-in-law Joseph Henke.
He is survived by his wife Shirley; 4 children: Gary Bobolz of Osceola, Lisa (Jason) Parrott of LeMars, Brenda (Kenric) Johnson of Alta, Kyle (Jill) Bobolz of Kingsley; 7 grandchildren: Ryan, Evan, and Callie Bobolz; Austin and Mason Parrott; Paige and Casey Bobolz; siblings: Anita (Harry) Mansfield of Pierson, Donald Bobolz of Storm Lake, and LaVonne Wright of Sioux City; mother-in-law Berniece Henke of Cherokee; brothers and sisters-in-law: Ronald (Pearl) Henke of Marcus, Robert (Carolyn) Henke of Cleghorn, Sharon (Tim) Kenan, Connie (Donald) Wilson, Julie (Roger) Ashbaugh all of Cherokee, Jan (Dennis) Wieland of Aurelia, and Linda (Les) Pedersen of Cleghorn; and many nieces and nephews.
