Harriette Shear-Gilligan, the daughter of Dottie Smith, was born January 30, 1929, at St. Lawrence, SD. Her childhood years were spent near Miller, SD where she attended school.
She was united in marriage to Randall Shear in 1947. They lived in Salix where they owned and operated a bar and she also worked in a chicken hatchery. Following the death of her husband Randall in 1961, Harriette moved to the Sioux City area where she worked various jobs and raised her children. Harriette was united in marriage to John Gilligan, and they moved to Cleghorn, IA, in 1986.
Harriette enjoyed gardening, quilting, gambling, watching NASCAR, tending to her Iris', and talking politics. Most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.
On August 26, 2013, Harriette passed away at the Cherokee Villa at the age of 84. She was preceded in death by her two husbands, Randall and John; one son, Harold "Butch" Shear; one daughter, Judy Vandenburg; and two grandsons.
She will be lovingly remembered by her children: Vince (Jean) Morrow of Le Mars, IA, Julie Marshall of Le Mars, IA, Joyce Shear of Lincoln, NE, Henry (Pat) Shear of Columbia, SC, Janice Rider of Le Mars, IA, and Howard (Deb) Shear of Cherokee, IA; 21 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends.
SERVICES
Memorial services will be held at 10:30 A.M. Thursday, August 29, 2013, at Greenwood-Schubert Funeral Home in Cherokee.
