Gloria M. French

Gloria M. French, the daughter of Pete and Zina (Cote) Brown was born on October 12, 1928, in Emmetsburg, IA. She attended school and graduated from Peterson High School. She later went to NIT in Sioux City, IA.

 On October 17, 1948, Gloria was united in marriage to Lloyd French in Sutherland, IA. She spent most of her married life as a farmer’s wife in rural Cleghorn/Marcus area. They sold the farm in 1978 and moved to Cleghorn. In 1985, they moved to Salt Lake City, UT to be closer to their daughter Pat. When Pat was transferred to Memphis, TN in 1987, they moved there a few years later. Lloyd passed away in 1995 and in 1999, Gloria moved back to Cleghorn  to live with her son Rod for about a year, until moving to  Willowbrook, The Garden’s, and eventually Cherokee Specialty Care.

 She was a longtime member of Maryhill Visitation Parish and most recently Immaculate Conception in Cherokee. Gloria enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, and crocheting until her eyesight diminished. She will be remembered as a fantastic cook and baker. For many years she made bread daily. She always had cookies, cakes, pies, etc. for her family to enjoy. Most of all, Gloria enjoyed time spent with family and friends.

 On June 23, 2020, Gloria passed away at Cherokee Specialty Care at the age of 91. She was preceded in death by her husband Lloyd French; parent, Pete and Zina Brown; sister, Carolyn Brown; and brothers Doug and Leon Brown.

 She will lovingly be remembered by her children, Rod (Nanette) French of Lakeville, MN, and Pat (Dan) LeBel of Las Vegas, NV; granddaughters, Megan (French) Lindgren, Adrienne French, and Erin LeBel; great-grandsons, Shawn Carter and Nikkolas Linares; sister, Mary Jeney of Clark, NJ; and numerous nieces and nephews.
