On March 18, 2016, Gloria Jean Geerdes moved to her new mansion into the room that Jesus, the Carpenter, prepared just for her.
Gloria Jean (Stieneke) Geerdes was born on December 23, 1948 in Cherokee, Iowa, to Dale and Wilma Stieneke. She was the oldest of five children. She grew up in rural Quimby, Iowa, and attended Willow Community Schools, graduating in 1967.
Gloria was blessed with a love for people and had a gift for gab. She put these gifts to use in her first job at Bell Telephone Company in Storm Lake. She lived in a rooming house in Storm Lake where she met the love of her life, Greg. They were united in marriage on August 11, 1968 at the Quimby United Methodist Church. From this union, two lovely daughters were born, Gina and Gwen, who brought the joy of eight precious grandchildren into their lives as well.
In June of 1971, the family moved to Germany, returned to Oskaloosa, then to West Union, IA, before settling in Marcus on July 1, 1979. From that time Greg and Gloria owned a clothing store. Gloria also worked at K-Products, Heartland Care Center, and then Cherokee Regional Medical Center until her retirement in 2015. She touched lives through her passion for Creative Memories, and with her always gracious smile, challenged all to write their story. Throughout her life she shared her love of Jesus. She brought His love to all the children who knew her through Bible Bowl, VBS, the Oakdale nursery room and as a 4-H leader. She studied His word with many women in her Bible Studies.
Gloria was preceded in death by her parents, a granddaughter, Elena Jean, a sister, Vicki Stieneke, and her father-in-law, Edward Geerdes.
She will be lovingly remembered by her husband, Greg; her daughters Gina (Cam) Rassel of Marcus and Gwen (Jay) Mathahs of Thompson, IA; grandchildren: Nathan, Wyatt, Connor, C.J., Ashley, Gunner, and Kingston; two brothers, David (Cindy) Stieneke of Aurelia, IA, and William (Nancy) Stieneke of Quimby, IA; one sister, Karen (Kevin) Wulf of Holstein; her mother-in-law, Viola Geerdes of Ackley, IA; sisters-in-law, Elaine (Jerry) Remhof of Urbandale, IA, and Vivian Geerdes (John) of West Des Moines, IA;numerous nieces, nephews and cousins, as well as all who knew and loved her.
