Glenna M. George, the daughter of Glenn and Mabel (Bork) Greene, was born April 27, 1924, in Marcus, IA. Her childhood years were spent in Marcus and Cherokee where she attended school and won many spelling bees.
Glenna married George Ryan in 1949, and then raised two children, Cherie and Bill, as a single parent until her marriage to Joe George in 1959. Joe preceded Glenna in death in 1996. A wonderful addition to the siblings in 2000 was Rod Keller, Glenna's son who had been adopted at birth.
Glenna worked as a waitress in several restaurants and steakhouses until she and Joe owned and operated the busy Coffee Cup Caf in Cherokee for many years, where she kept the customers happy with her homemade chicken and noodles, bread pudding and rhubarb pie. She later managed High Fashion Fabric store in Cherokee until her retirement.
Glenna had an enduring love for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, a lifelong attachment to the many pets in her surroundings, and a passion for cooking, reading, and sewing. Her strong will, determination, and sense of humor helped her cope with multiple health issues and the effects of a stroke she suffered in 1992.
Glenna is survived by her daughter Cheryl and husband Mac McMullen of Denison IA, two sons, Bill Ryan and wife Linda of Muscatine IA, Rod Keller and wife Karen of Hartley IA, four grandchildren: Derek Ryan (wife Amy), Aaron Ryan (wife Carmen), Megan Ryan, and Nicole Keller, six great-grandchildren, nephew Kevin Greene, niece Linda Kohn, and many family members and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe George, her parents, a niece Kathy French, and her siblings Melvyn and Wayne (Mike) Greene.
The family wishes to express their heartfelt appreciation to Kate Neumann, homemaker aide to Glenna for twelve years, who lovingly cared for her like another daughter.
