Gladys Ann Walsh, age 88 of Sac City, IA, and formerly Quimby, IA, passed away Monday, October 30, 2023, at Park View Rehabilitation Center in Sac City. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10:30 a.m. Friday, November 3, 2023, at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Cherokee, IA. Father Dan Rupp will officiate. Burial will be at the Quimby Cemetery in Quimby, IA. Visitation with family present will be held from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Thursday night at the Greenwood-Schubert Funeral Home in Cherokee, IA. There will be a 7:00 p.m. prayer service Thursday, following visitation at the funeral home. The Greenwood-Schubert Funeral Home in Cherokee is assisting the family with arrangements. Gladys Ann (Connolly) Walsh, the daughter of Timothy William and Sarah Louise (Denison) Connolly, was born May 19, 1935, in Elk Point, South Dakota. Her childhood years were on the farm outside of Elk Point. She attended country school through eighth grade, 3 years at Elk Point High School and graduated from Mount Marty High School in 1953. Followed by one year of secretarial school at Mount Marty College.
Gladys was united in marriage to William L. Walsh on August 11, 1956. They moved to Quimby, Iowa in 1961. Gladys and Bill raised 5 children in Quimby, Iowa. She was a member of St. John The Baptist Catholic Church for 47 years, Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, and most recently St. Mary’s Catholic Church of Sac City, Iowa. Gladys worked for Simonsen’s in Quimby for over 20 years. She was actively involved in the community as a member of the women’s auxiliary for the American Legion, church guild, the Quimby Library Board, and most recently the Sac City Library Board. After retirement, she volunteered for Mid Sioux Opportunities in Cherokee, Iowa for 13 years.
Gladys enjoyed reading, traveling, working on puzzles, playing bridge and card games, and attending various sporting activities in the area, especially those of her grandchildren.
On October 30, 2023, Gladys passed away at Park View Care Center in Sac City, Iowa. She was preceded in death by her infant son, Timothy William Walsh; husband, William L. Walsh; parents, Timothy William, and Sara Louise Connolly; sisters, Mary Florence Connolly, Loretta Patnaude, and Bonnie Rupp; and brother, William Connolly.
She is survived by five children; Ann (Willie) Osborne of Sac City, Iowa, Timothy J. (Lee Anne) Walsh of Overland Park, Kansas, Amy (Felton) Brown of Houston, Texas, Jane (Nick) Gambs of Dunlap, Iowa, and Molly (Jim) Walsh of Tampa, Florida; 17 grandchildren: Sara (B.J.) Kolbe, Scot (Rhiannon) Osborne, Jeff (Lacy) Osborne, Patrick Walsh, Annabelle (Logan) Newcomer, Josephine “Josie” Walsh, Anthony Brown, Zane (Brittany) Brown, Caitlin Brown, Jake Brown, Megan (Josh) Johnston, Jaclyn Roepke, Allison Roepke, Nicholas Gambs, Claire Gambs, Kristina Walsh, and Rebecca Walsh; 12 great-grandchildren: Zachary Kolbe, Ty Kolbe, Katelyn Kolbe, Boe Kolbe, Talan Osborne, Brielle Osborne, Collyns Osborne, Amaya Brown, Camorah Ward, Denzel Hahn, Jr, Gwen Johnston, Charlotte Johnston, and soon two more.
The family requests memorials be made to: Quimby Library, Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Cherokee, Iowa, Sac City Library, or St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Sac City, Iowa.
