Gillian 'Jill' E. Ament, the daughter of Del and Mary (Reilly) Ament, was born January 23, 1959, in Cherokee, IA. She was a 1977 graduate of Washington High School and in 1981 she graduated from Benedictine College in Atchison, KS with a B.A. in political science.
Jill moved to Washington DC in 1981. She worked at a number of Washington area non-profits gaining experience in finance, fundraising, personnel and community organizing. In 1993 she joined the National Housing Trust, a national nonprofit, devoted to preservation of affordable housing. As the Trust's Controller, she will be dearly remembered by her coworkers and the residents of the Trust's properties. In addition to her professional life, Jill enjoyed taking trips with family and friends and took great pride in providing hospitality in her home for many visitors over the years. She was also an avid reader and loved tending to her flowers.
Jill was preceded in death by her father, Del Ament. She is survived by her mother, Mary Ament-Rupp (Norman) of Cherokee, IA; her five sisters: Julie (Dan) Marr of Marietta, GA, Betsy (Frank) Black of Dubuque, IA, Ellen (Wayne) Russell of Omaha, NE, Stephanie (Tim) Schutt of Iowa City, IA, and Teri (Riley) Fairchild of Dubuque, IA; step-sisters and brothers: Pamela Rupp of Cherokee, IA, Gregory (Renee) Rupp of Cherokee, IA, Bradley (Nancy) Rupp of Davenport, FL, and Lori (Rob) LeFleuer of Minneapolis, MN; twelve nieces and nephews: Erin (David) Engram of Anthem, AZ Kate Black of Iowa City, IA, Michael (Heather) Black of Dubuque, IA Stephen Black of Fargo, ND, Bryan (Jennifer) Russell of Omaha, NE, Chrystine Russell of Norfolk, NE, Katy Russell of Chicago, IL, Tony (Makenzie) Schutt of Marion, IA, Ian (Jheri) Schutt of West Des Moines, IA, Alex Schutt of Iowa City, IA, Matt Upstrom of Gonzales, TX, and Emily Upstrom of Napierville, IL; she is also survived by six great nieces and nephews: Andrew and Ellie Engram of Anthem, AZ, Yossarian Pierpont of Iowa City, IA, Abigail and Shawn Russell of Omaha, NE and Zachary Schutt of Marion, IA; one uncle, Robert (Kathy) Ament of McAllen, TX; and one aunt, Florence (Verl) Peterson of Turin, IA.
SERVICES
Memorial services will be held at 10:30 A.M. Saturday, February 16, 2013, at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Cherokee.
