Geraldine Aileen Brutsman, daughter of Arthur and Rachael Sunderlin was born August 20, 1927 in Delaware County, Iowa.
Her childhood years were spent on a farm near Delhi, IA. She received her education at Maquoketa Valley High School in Delhi and graduated in 1944. On December 6, 1947, Gerry was united in marriage to Harry Lester Brutsman in Delhi, IA. Geraldine worked at the Fayette County Home as a cook and later as a CNA at the Independence Mental Health.
In 1957, they moved to Cherokee where Geraldine got a job at CMHI as a CNA/CMA and night supervisor. On October 20, 1958 Geraldine and Harry were blessed with a son Harry Arthur Brutsman Jr. Geraldine continued working at the MHI until retiring in 1989.
Geraldine enjoyed sewing, crafts, gardening, crocheting, and loved to cook. Most of her handy work went to neighbors, nieces, and nephews.
On June 10, 2013 St. Peter opened his gates for her to come home at the age of 85. She was preceded in death by her parents, Arthur and Rachael Sunderlin; her husband, Harry Brutsman; two sisters: Edith Sunderlin and Glendola Lee; four brothers: Lewis Sunderlin, Frank Sunderlin, Charles Sunderlin, and Harold Sunderlin.
She will lovingly be remembered by her son, Harry Arthur Brutsman Jr. and his wife Nancy, of Cherokee, IA; step-grandson, Kim Meyer and wife Cristy, of Dakota City, IA; two great-granddaughters: Kayla and Kemra; two sisters, Ruth Noble and husband Robert, of Cedar Rapids, IA, and Esther Jones of Cedar Rapids, IA; two sisters-in-law, Audrey Sunderlin of Lake Park, IA, and Jeanne Kelly of De Funiak Springs, FL; and well as many nieces and nephews.
SERVICES
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. Saturday, June 15, 2013, at the Greenwood-Schubert Funeral Home in Cherokee.
