Gene Hagan

Donald Gene Hagan, the son of Roy and Annie (Bainbridge) Hagan was born August 19, 1929, in Kingsley, Iowa. His childhood years were spent in Kingsley where he attended school and graduated from Kingsley High School in 1947. Following graduation Gene enlisted in the Army and served two tours during the Korean War where he was stationed in Germany and Alaska. On October 29, 1953, Gene was united in marriage to Wilma Walters in Pierson, Iowa. They lived in Kingsley, Sioux City, Pierson, and Royal, IA before moving to Le Mars, IA in 1959. Gene worked in agriculture his whole life where he farmed and worked at elevators. They moved to Larrabee, IA in 1973. Gene was a hard worker but more than that he was a compassionate person. After their children were grown they became foster parents and cared for dozens of special needs children over the years. They had a special bond with each and every child that were lucky enough to have stayed with them. Gene enjoyed woodworking, gardening, raising dogs, camping and fishing. Most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. On November 21, 2011, Gene passed away the Cherokee Regional Medical Center in Cherokee at the age of 82. He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Annie Hagan; one brother, Corky Hagan; and one son, Rick Hagan. He is survived by his wife Wilma Hagan of Cherokee, IA; Children, Linda Simmons-Hagan of Cherokee, IA, Robyn Bush of Cherokee, IA, and Steven Hagan of Cherokee, IA; son-in-law, Gary Simmons of Cherokee, IA; daughter-in-law, Bonnie Hagan of Syracuse, MO; one brother, Bob (Helen) Hagan of Kingsley, IA; brother-in-law, Don (Coralyn) Walters of Quimby, IA; eight grandchildren: Alecia (Stan) Maurer of Cherokee, IA, Shannan McNamara of Cedar Rapids, IA, Aaron Bush of Cherokee, IA, Chet Bush (Liz) of Cedar Rapids, IA, Sara Stimac of Kansas City, MO, Melissa Hagan of Chicago, IL, Shane (Hailey) Cobb of Syracuse, MO, and Brandi Hagan of Syracuse, MO; 7 great-grandchildren; as well as other relatives and friends. SERVICES
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. Saturday, November 26, 2011 at Greenwood Funeral Home in Cherokee.
