Gayle Rae Messerole

Gayle Rae (Fuhrman) Messerole, the daughter of Walter and Doreen (Witcombe) Fuhrman, was born in Quimby, Iowa on August 24, 1941. She received her early education in Cherokee, graduating from Washington High School in 1959. On May 12, 1962, Gayle was united in marriage to Ronald "Tiny" Messerole at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Cherokee. From early on, Gayle had a desire to be involved with office work. Immediately after high school, she started working at KCHE in Cherokee, followed by United Refrigerated Services, Rural Electric Coop, and the State of Iowa, from where she retired in 2010 after 19 years of service. In addition to working outside the home, Gayle was a loving wife and mother to their three children, Tyler, Teri and Todd. She was a member of the I.C. Catholic Church, and also became active in St. Mary's Catholic Church in Spirit Lake following her move to the Iowa Great Lakes area. Gayle enjoyed sewing, cooking, and gardening. Most of all, she enjoyed spending time and caring for her family and friends. Gayle passed away at her home in Spirit Lake on Wednesday, April 6, 2016, at the age of 74. She was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Doreen Fuhrman; husband Tiny Messerole in 2004; two sisters, Janet and Janice Fuhrman; and one brother, Gary Fuhrman. Left to cherish her memory are her children: Tyler (Erica) Messerole of Maplewood, MN, Teri (Marty) Soole of Sioux City, IA, and Todd (Donna) Messerole of Onawa, IA; her grandchildren: Kelsey and Joe (children of Ty and Erica), Marty, Jeff, Mike and JT (sons of Teri and Marty), Amanda and Hannah (daughters of Todd and Donna); a great-grandson, Miles (son of Amanda and Tyler Maynard); one sister, Jeannette (Bob) Grant of Cherokee, IA; one brother, Gerald Fuhrman of Cherokee, IA; several nieces; nephews; other relatives; and friends.
