Fred Eugene Johnston, the son of Harold and Alvina (Weber) Johnston was born December 31, 1940, in Le Mars, IA. His childhood years were spent near Cleghorn, where he attended school and graduated from Cleghorn High School. Following high school, Fred attended Iowa State University where he excelled on their swim team.
On April 8, 1967, Fred was united in marriage to Judith Malcom. They resided near Cleghorn, where he did custom combining, corn shelling and raised pigs.
Fred was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Cherokee and a 4th Degree member of the Knights of Columbus. In his spare time, he enjoyed working on old cars, gardening, attending car shows/cruises, and assisting with 4-H. He also enjoyed sailing, welding, and going on vacations, especially Hawaii. Most of all, Fred enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.
On Saturday, October 9, 2021, Fred passed away at Unity Point Hospital in Sioux City, IA, at the age of 80. He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Alvina Johnston; and one infant son, Nathan.
He will lovingly be remembered by his wife, Judy Johnston of Cleghorn, IA; daughter, Michelle (Andy) Kounas of Fayetteville, NC; son, Wade (Ann) Johnston of Florida; three grandchildren, Jacqueline Kounas, Zachary Kounas, and Nathan Johnston; one sister, Sharon (Gerri) Dunn of Fort Dodge, IA; and other relatives and friends.
