Floriene Delma Sangwin, age 93 of Cherokee, IA, passed away Monday, January 31, 2011 at Careage Hills Care Center in Cherokee, IA.
She was born on July 28, 1917 in Rochester, Minnesota. She was the eldest of 9 children of Edward and Nola Quiggle DeMars. Her childhood years were spent in Rochester, Minnesota, Jackson, Minnesota, and Meriden, Iowa. She graduated from Meriden High School; class of 1936.
She was united in marriage to Barton Sangwin on July 10, 1937 in Primghar, Iowa.
They lived on a farm north of Meriden where they raised two daughters. Floriene remained on the farm until the death of her husband on October 7, 1986. She then moved to Cherokee and resided there until her death.
She attended the Meriden Evangelical Free Church in Meriden, Iowa. She enjoyed living on the farm, sewing, crocheting, and reading.
Survivors include her daughter Sandra Schlenger of Meriden, IA; one brother Gerald DeMars of Irvine, CA; five grandchildren: Kelly and husband Dennis Ryan, Kevin and wife Mary Carol Schallau, Karla and husband Kyle Prunty, Karin and husband Randy Cedar, and Kenny and wife Melissa Schlenger; nine great-grandchildren: Abby and Korbin Schallau, Nichole, Rebecca, and Tyler Prunty, Jessica Cedar, Emily, Brooklynn and Paige Schlenger; and son-in-law Richard Schallau.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; a daughter, Patricia Ann Schallau; brothers, Richard DeMars, Duane DeMars, and Donald DeMars, sisters; Harriett Dewell, Audrey Percival, Darlene Smith, and Bonnie Hollingsworth; and son-in-law, Melvin Schlenger.

Memorial services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, February 12, 2011 at the Meriden Evangelical Free Church in Meriden, IA
