Flornie Weber joined her favorite dance partner, Joe, to keep time with our Lord on Feb. 3, 2012, a week after being diagnosed with cancer. She journeyed on in the loving presence of her children and grandchildren, under the tender care of friends at Heartland Care Center in Marcus, Iowa.
A lifelong resident of northwest Iowa, Florentine Rosalinda was born to Nicholas and Catherine (Kemp) Reistroffer on the family farm in Oyens on April 1, 1929, the last of 11 children.
Flornie met Joe Weber at a dance. After she finished nurses training at St. Joseph Mercy College of Nursing in Sioux City, they decided to be permanent partners and were united in marriage on August 28, 1951. The farm life she had been raised and nurtured in prepared her as she switched careers to become mother, wife and homemaker for Joe and their family in Marcus.
A devout Catholic and living testament to Jesus' generous love and mercy, Flornie was very active with Visitation Parish in Maryhill and later with Holy Name Church in Marcus. Her children and grandchildren benefit from her passion for quilting, as many fine examples of Flornie's handiwork grace their homes. Though born on April 1, she was nobody's fool when a hand of cards was dealt around the kitchen table for a game of pinochle, often with a dish of her favorite ice cream nearby.
Flornie's transcontinental legacy of love includes six children and 18 grandchildren, as well as dozens of special nieces, nephews, cousins and friends: Jim (Sue) of Madison, WI, and their children, Ali, Jessi and Jake; Kathy (Larry Paulson) of Plymouth, MN, and their children, Derek Paulson (New York City) and Joelle Paulson; Robert/Bob (Eileen) of Hastings, MN, and their children, Scott West (Portland, OR), Shelly West (Los Angeles, CA) and Kevin; Richard (Kris) of Marcus, IA, and their children, Brent Bennett (Sioux City, IA), Paxton Bennett (West Des Moines, IA) and Josh (Rockwell, IA); John (Carla) of Marcus, IA, and their children, Brian, Ashley and Alex; Chuck of Lexington, KY, and his children, Laura Payne (Dayton, OH) Michelle Payne (Lexington, KY), Sarah Payne (Lexington, KY) and Katelyn.
