Fanny E. Hatterman

Fanny E. Hatterman, the daughter of Evert and Minnie Sleeper, was born October 31, 1924, in George, Iowa. She attended school in George until 1932 when her family moved to Cherokee. She graduated from Wilson High School in 1942. During World War II (1943-1945) she worked at an Omaha, Nebraska defense plant making airplanes. On June 14, 1946 she was united in marriage to Wayne Hatterman. She was employed at Tots & Teens, Napier's Inc., was a Water Billing Clerk for the City of Cherokee and was a Central Trust & Savings Bank teller for 18 years. She retired in 1994 and worked part time at J.C. Penny Catalog until 2004. Fanny was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church Missouri Synod, in Cherokee, IA. She was past President of Business & Professional Women, Trinity Lutheran L.W.M.L, and Cherokee Bowling Association. She was also an active member and vice chair of the V.F.W. Auxiliary. Fanny also volunteered for many years for Trinity Lutheran Church, Elder Peer, and assisted residents playing bingo for V.F.W. Auxiliary at three nursing homes. Fanny enjoyed bowling, fishing and visiting her two daughters, her grandchildren, and great-grandchildren and their families. She and Wayne enjoyed travel to Sino American Cooperative Organization (World War II Veterans) gatherings, especially their visit to Taiwan. On December 7, 2011, Fanny passed away at the Cherokee Regional Medical Center in Cherokee at the age of 87. She was preceded in death by her husband, Wayne Hatterman (12-25-2001); parents, Evert and Minnie Sleeper; and one brother, Henry Sleeper. She is survived by two daughters, Esther Carey (John) of Marcus, IA and Ellen Peters of Hewitt, MN; five grandchildren: Christopher Carey and wife Dallas, Timothy Carey, Erin (Carey) Guerra and husband Jeff, Emily (Peters) Barber and husband Chris, and Alex Peters and wife Bertille; five great-grandchildren: Riley, Tessa, Behr, Chloe, and Sienna. Two sisters, Mrs. William (Etta) Caldwell of Cherokee and Mrs. Ski (Viola) Wisniewski of Pardeeville, WI.
SERVICES
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, December 10, 2011, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Cherokee.
