Eugene "PeeWee" Ferris 91 of Cherokee died Sept. 27 at the Accura Nursing Home in Cherokee. PeeWee was born in rural Aurelia in 1931 to Robert and Ruth Ferris. He graduated from Grand Meadow in 1948. From 1951-1953 he was in the army and served in the Korean War. He married Dorothy Peterson on Feb. 13, 1955. PeeWee farmed most of his life in the Quimby/Washta area and retired to Cherokee. For many years he ran the thresher machine at the Grand Meadow Heritage Days.
Preceding him in death were his wife Dorothy, parents Robert and Ruth Ferris, in-laws Carl and Pearl Peterson, siblings John Ferris, Mildred Bainbridge, Leone Crane and Helen Downey.
Left to cherish his memory are his sons, Bob (Karen) Ferris of Meriden and Bill Ferris of Washta. Grandchildren, Ryan (Dana) Ferris of Indianola and Jessica (Tyler) Kannegieter of Cherokee. Great-grandchildren Aubrey, Leah, Liv, Steele and Beau. Sisters, Peg Wilberding of Albia and Wilma Grauer of Sanborn. His companion of 20+ years, Margaret Steward of Cherokee.
