Elva Johnson was born on a farm near Remsen, IA, March 13, 1925, to Art and Ida (Wilberding) Delperdang. She graduated from Immaculate Conception High School in Cherokee in 1942. She went to work at Miller Insurance, which later became Miller-Mac.
Elva married Kenneth Johnson on June 26, 1947, and the couple enjoyed 54 years of marriage. Kenneth passed away in 2001. Following her work in insurance, Elva dedicated her life to being a fulltime mother to their six children. She sewed clothes for the entire family, along with all of the other responsibilities of raising a family and helping on the farm. She still took time to play with her children and, eventually, her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She had a wonderful sense of humor, and was known for giving her children's spouses a bad time. She was one of the founding members of the Maple Valley Friendship Club, attending meetings as long as she was able. She also enjoyed the Wilberding cousins' get-togethers.
On Monday, September 4, 2017, Elva passed away at Accura Healthcare in Cherokee, having reached the age of 92 years, 5 months, 21 days. She was preceded in death by her husband; two brothers, Raymond Delperdang and Arthur Delperdang; four sisters, Martha Tremain, Florence Goettsch, Mary Hanson and Delores Sawvell.
