Elizabeth "June" (Stroud) Reinert was born February 22, 1920, on her parents' farm near Quimby, IA. She was the first of nine children born to Annie (Stratten) and Annual Stroud. From a very early age, June helped care for her younger siblings, and took her turn with many of the farm chores, as well. She attended country school in Silver Township.
She married Anthony "Tony" Reinert on April 9, 1939, at the Maryhill Parish in rural Cherokee. They made their home in Washta, IA. June was soon busy raising their family of seven children. Through the years, she also worked as a telephone operator, as a cook and Nurse's Aide at nursing homes and Sioux Valley Hospital. She also cooked at the Washta and Grand Meadow schools. She was once an active member of the Sunset View Cemetery board, and served on St. Helen's Guild in the Quimby parish prior to its closing. She enjoyed playing cards of any kind. (And she loved to WIN!) June was a hard worker all of her life. She was blessed with a compassionate heart, and took great satisfaction from caring for others--whether it was her younger siblings, her own children, or the people she took care of at the nursing homes and hospital. In turn, she was lovingly cared for in her last days by the staff at Country Side Estates in Cherokee. They showed great kindness and compassion until June passed away there on Sunday, February 21, 2016, just one day shy of her 96th birthday.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Tony in 1988; two brothers, Garland and Jerry; a sister, Dorothy; two grandchildren; a great-grandchild; three sons-in-law.
Left to cherish her memory are her children: Veronica (Dennis) Thomas of Cherokee, Frances (Gary) Trienen-Wistrom of Ankeny, IA, Patricia Thomas of Moville, IA, Melvin (Marge) Reinert of Cherokee, Mary (Jerry) Luzadder of Gulfport, MS, Steven (Patsy) Reinert and Frank (Cindy) Reinert, all of Cherokee; 21 grandchildren; 48 great-grandchildren; 25 great-great-grandchildren; two brothers, Darrell Stroud of Cherokee, and Roy (Lydia) Stroud of Quimby; three sisters, Evelyn Henrichsen of Correctionville, IA, Betty Stevenson of Quimby, and Annabelle Steele of Fullerton, NE; one sister-in-law, Bonnie Stroud of Omaha, NE; other relatives and friends.
