Eleanor Frances Sokolowski, the daughter of Frank and Opama (Weis) Murray, was born July 10, 1923 on the family farm near Galva, IA. Her childhood years were spent near Galva where she attended school and graduated from Galva High School. She then attended Buena Vista College in Storm Lake, IA where she earned a degree in teaching.
Following her schooling, Eleanor taught school at Sulpher Springs, IA, Alta, IA, Holy Name School in Marcus, IA, and St. Mary's School in Remsen, IA. On August 23, 1947 she was united in marriage to Henry Sokolowski at Schaller, IA. Following their marriage they lived on a farm near Galva from 1947 - 1956. They moved to a farm near Storm Lake, IA until 1960, and then to the family farm south of Marcus.
Eleanor was an active member of Holy Name Catholic Church in Marcus, serving as Eucharistic Minister, Lector, Choir, DCCW, CCD teacher, and was the first Grand Regent of the Marcus Court. Other activities include, 4-H Leader, PTA President, OAO, Cowbells, tap dancing, bowling, playing cards, and was on the board of the Grand Meadow Heritage Center. With all the activities that kept her occupied, her greatest joy was spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
On November 6, 2016, Eleanor passed away at the Heartland Care Center in Marcus, IA surrounded by her children and grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents Frank and Opama (Weis) Murray, husband, Henry Sokowlowski in 1993; one brother Don Murray; son-in-law, George Smalling; daughter-in-law, Lori Sokolowski; and one grandson, Aaron Sokolowski.
She will lovingly be remembered by her children: Mary Smalling of Mesa, AZ, Susan (James) Bettenga of San Diego, CA, Jane Goldsmith of Sulpher Springs, TX, Tom Sokolowski of Correctionville, IA, Bill Sokolowski of Washta, IA, and Richard (Martha) Sokolowski of Cherokee, IA; 12 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and one great-grandchild; 4 step-grandchildren, two step-great-grandchildren; one sister Peggy Kalin of Holstein, IA; one brother, Leo (Jan) Murray of Algona, IA; several nieces; nephews; other relatives; and many friends.

SERVICES
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, November 12, 2016, at Holy Name Catholic Church in Marcus, Iowa.

VISITATION
Public visitation will be held from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. Friday evening with the family present during that time at the Greenwood-Schubert Funeral Home in Marcus. There will be a 4:00 p.m. Catholic Daughter's Rosary and a 7:00 p.m. prayer service Friday at the funeral home.
