Elaine Ione Dyslin, the daughter of Marion and Ida Mae (Schieuer) Hackett, was born on November 1, 1938, in Woodbury County, IA. Her childhood was mostly spent in Cherokee County, graduating from Quimby High School in 1957. She then attended the Humboldt Institute of Business in Minneapolis, MN.
On December 29, 1962, she was united in marriage to Harold Dyslin at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Quimby, IA. Following their marriage, they resided in Aurelia. She worked for Simonsen’s and later at the Mental Health Institute in Cherokee. She then worked at Sunset Knoll for 26 years, serving as the Activity Director at the time of her retirement.
Elaine was a member of the Immaculate Conception Church, the Aurelia Catholic Ladies Circle, and served on the Sunset Knoll Auxiliary for over 30 years. She enjoyed sewing, especially doll clothes and quilts. Most of all, she loved spending time with her family and friends.
On Saturday, August 29, 2020, Elaine passed away at her home in Norfolk, at the age of 81. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold on March 30, 2004; parents, Marion and Mae Hackett; four siblings, Karen Rae Bergert, Delora Jean Mitchell, Darrell Hackett, and Duane Hackett; brother-in-law, Duane Mitchell; niece, Kathy Mitchell; sisters-in-law, Joanne Hackett and Iva Jean Hackett; and great-nephew, Nicholas Volkert.
She will lovingly be remembered by her children: Gwen (Roger) DuBois of Hartley, IA, Brad (Cari) Dyslin of Yorktown Heights, NY, and Melissa Dyslin of Norfolk, NE; seven grandchildren: Andrea Highstreet, Sandy Soden, Tammy Salzkorn, Heather Salzkorn, Mason Dyslin, Tanner Dyslin, and McKenzie Dyslin; six great-grandchildren; two sisters; Carol (Don) Gerjets of Cherokee, IA and Phyllis (Lee) Campbell of Smyrna, TN; several nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
