Dorothy L. Bowling, the daughter of Walter and Margaret (Burwell) Smith was born on July 13, 1924, in Oklahoma City, OK. Her childhood years were spent in Oklahoma City where she attended school.
On July 15, 1942, Dorothy was united in marriage to Henry Clay Bowling in Oklahoma City. To this union two children were born, Donna and Michael. Following their marriage they lived in Oklahoma City where she remained at home helping to raise their two children. After a couple years, Henry's job as a plant manager brought them to Kansas City, MO, Louisville, KY, Des Moines, IA, Dubuque, IA, Marshall, MO, and to Cherokee, IA.
Dorothy enjoyed oil painting, golf, and cooking. Most of all she loved being around her family and friends.
On January 5, 2010, Dorothy passed away at the Cherokee Regional Medical Center in
Cherokee at the age of 86. She was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Henry Bowling on January 2, 1996; one son, Michael Bowling, in 1963; and one son-in-law, Deon Ray Meyer in 2000.
She is survived by one daughter, Donna Meyer of Cherokee; grandson, Michael Meyer of Lincoln, NE; granddaughter, Stefanie and her husband Matthew Williamson of Aurelia; five great-grandchildren: Jerick, Vanessa, Austin, Gavin, and Kylee; her special companion, Lawrence Crist of Cherokee; as well as other relatives and friends.
SERVICES
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. Monday, January 10, 2011, at the First Church of Christ in Cherokee.
