DoraDean Kahl

DoraDean Kahl, the daughter of Walter and Alice (Raney) McManus, was born on November 13, 1924, in Cherokee, IA. Her childhood years were spent in Cherokee, where she received her education and graduated from Wilson High School in 1942. DoraDean was the youngest of eight siblings. She lived most of her life in Cherokee. On April 6, 1953, Dora was united in marriage to Eldo Kahl in Cherokee. They were married almost 40 years before his passing. DoraDean had a passion for life and tried to live as she believed. She was an active member of First Church of Christ, where she enjoyed teaching Sunday school. She was a natural organic Christian and tried to pass it on to others, although she was not always welcomed. DoraDean enjoyed working, visiting with her friends and church family, but most of all she loved being around her family. On April 6, 2010, DoraDean passed away at Cherokee Regional Medical Center in Cherokee, IA, from complications due to a fall at her home on Easter Sunday. She was 85. DoraDean was preceded in death by her husband, Eldo Kahl, five siblings, and one grandson. She is survived by five children: Dan (Mary Jo) Dorr of Pagosa Springs, CO, Janis (Steve) Neff of Cape Coral FL, "J." (Joni) Kahl of Cherokee, IA, Jolene (Russell) Bittner of Des Moines, IA, and Dean Kahl of Shelley, Minnesota, seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; brother, Harold McManus of Cherokee, IA; one sister, Hazel Boulay of Harbor City, CA; as well as other relatives and friends.
SERVICES
A celebration of life service will be held at 2:00 P.M., Saturday, April 10, 2010, at the First Church of Christ in Cherokee, IA.
