Donald Ray Sechler

Donald Ray Sechler Sr., the son of Frank LeRoy and Fern Norma (Moody) Sechler, was born May 14, 1937, in Meriden, IA. His childhood years were spent in Meriden where he received his education and graduated from Meriden High School. After graduation, Don worked for his dad at Sechler's Garage in Meriden. Following his father's retirement, He entered into a partnership with his brother Ron, and worked as a mechanic at their business, Sechler's Garage in Meriden. On January 17, 1958, Don was united in marriage to Eleanor Schwenn at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Cherokee. They resided most of their life in Meriden and were blessed with three children: DJ, Tim, and Tyler. Don enjoyed fishing, riding his lawn mower, going to the casino, and tinkering on cars. It was his mission to keep his old stubborn golf cart running so he could drive around town to visit with people. Don also enjoyed driving in his pickup with his favorite dog Clyde. Most of all, Don loved visiting with people at the post office and spending time with his family and friends. On September 24, 2014, Don passed away at a Sioux City Hospital at the age of 77. He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Fern Sechler; his wife, Ellie Sechler on November 20, 1999; one brother, Ron Sechler; one nephew, Jeff Sechler; and one sister, Charlene Mongan. He will lovingly be remembered by his three sons: DJ Sechler of Meriden, IA, Tim (Janell) Sechler of Mankato, MN, and Tyler (Diane) Sechler of Calumet, IA; one daughter-in-law, Pam Sechler of Sioux Center, IA; five grandchildren: Breann (Dave) Tierschel of St. Paul, MN, Crystal (Jonathon) Kiel of Newkirk, IA, Jessica Sechler (Adam Olson), of Storm Lake, IA, Kayla Sechler of Atlantic, IA, and Caitlin Sechler of Sioux Center, IA; four great-grandchildren: Emmett Kiel, Amelia Kiel, Ethan Sechler, and Morgan Tierschel; two sisters-in-law, Linda (Gerald) Endreson of Kansas City, MO, and Edie Sechler of Meriden, IA; Don is also survived by several nieces; nephews; other relatives and friends.
SERVICES
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. Monday, September 29, 2014, at the Greenwood-Schubert Funeral Home in Cherokee.

VISITATION
Visitation will begin at 2 P.M. Sunday afternoon, with the family present from 5-7 P.M Sunday night at the Greenwood-Schubert Funeral Home in Cherokee.
