DONALD "PETE" GENE PEDERSEN

Donald Gene Pedersen, age 82 of Cherokee, IA, passed away unexpectedly at his home on Saturday, October 7, 2023. There will be a celebration of Pete's life from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Friday, October 13, 2023, at Jobie's Pastime Lounge in Cherokee, IA The Greenwood-Schubert Funeral Home in Cherokee is assisting the family with arrangements. Donald “Pete” Gene Pedersen, son of Alfred Pedersen and Geneva Barnes Pedersen, was born on October 21, 1940 in Iowa.  He graduated from Humboldt High School and moved to California.  He eventually returned to Humbolt, IA.

Pete was united in marriage to Karen “Kay” Moore.  They moved in 1981 and made their home in Cherokee, IA.  Pete had several jobs including working at service stations in Livermore and in Badger.  While in Cherokee, he worked for Christensen Brothers and GCC until his retirement at 72.

Pete enjoyed fishing, camping, and spending time with his family and friends. 

Pete passed away peacefully on October 7, 2023.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Alfred and Geneva Pedersen, sisters, Shirley Lonning and Marilyn Drewes and brother, Paul Pedersen.

Pete is survived by his wife, Karen Kay Pedersen, brothers, Richard and Velda of Manchaca, TX,  Daniel and Joan of Liberty, MO, and his children, Bryan and Michelle of Cherokee, IA, Kent and Jana of Cascade, IA, Mike and Veronica of Crystal Lake, IA, Chad and Trudy of Milford, IA, Tara and Bill Bogart of Simpsonville, SC, Scott Birt of Webster City, IA, Troy and Stacey Lenhart of Cherokee, IA, and Shawn and Karen Smith of Owatonna, MN; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, and friends.
