Donald Lee 'Rat' Radmaker

February 8, 1938 — January 24, 2015

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Donald Lee Radmaker on January 24, 2015 after a short struggle with lung cancer. Don was born on the family farm in Titonka, Iowa, February 8, 1938. He attended a one-room country school house where as a young child, was fluent in German and English. After graduating from Titonka High School in 1956, he traveled around Iowa working for Western Electric. While in Cedar Rapids, he met Audrey McDonald, fell madly in love and married June 7, 1958. Upon marriage, Don took his city bride back to Titonka to return to farming. Audrey proved her love by tending to chickens and other chores of country living. They eventually moved their young family to Cherokee Iowa where Don went to work for Lundell's Construction and then later, he joined his good friend, Roger Miller in Sioux City with Concrete Specialties. After retirement, he worked for Swain Motors where he enjoyed coffee and chatting with friends while selling cars. Known by his family and friends as their much-loved 'Rat', Don and Audrey fully enjoyed traveling with their friends. Don was an avid sports fan. He was a star softball pitcher and homerun hitter, champion bowler, loved playing golf and watching the Hawkeyes. He is preceded in his death by his parents, Henry and Sophia Radmaker (Titonka, IA), and his sister Harriet George (Estherville, IA). He will be sorely missed by his surviving family; wife Audrey, son Tod Radmaker (Homer, AK), daughter Kristy and son-in-law Bob Walker (Iowa City, IA) and their children, Nate and Leslie Platz, with daughter Karis (Lacey, WA), Seth and Erin Schroeder, with children Jordan and Emmy (North Liberty, IA) and Clay Walker (Iowa City, IA).
