Donald F. Specht

Donald Francis Specht, the son of Frank and Katherine (Mansfield) Specht, was born April 26, 1931, at Cherokee, IA. His childhood years were spent on his parents' farm. He attended elementary school at Sheridan Township and Maryhill Catholic Schools. He graduated from Immaculate Conception High School in Cherokee in 1948. After graduation Don worked various agricultural related jobs until starting with Northwestern Bell Telephone Company in 1951. Don was drafted into the U.S. Army in September of 1952. He was honorably discharged in August of 1954. He returned to work at Northwestern Bell and was assigned to several Iowa towns throughout the years, working as a special services foreman. He retired on February 28, 1990. On October 22, 1955, Don was united in marriage to Kathleen Marie Wagner at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Pocahontas, IA. They were blessed with one son, Steven. Kathleen passed away on February 9, 1998. Don married Faith (Perrett) Hanson on May 17, 2003, and they made their home in Marcus, IA. Don was an active member of the American Legion Post #130 of Fort Dodge and the VFW San Juan Marine Post #733 of Mason City. He was a 4th Degree Knight of Columbus and a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America. He enjoyed donating his time with the American Red Cross. On June 14, 2013, Don passed away at Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City, IA, having reached the age of 82. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Kathleen Specht, parents Frank and Kathleen Specht, a sister, Mary Ann Teta, brothers-in-law, Louis Kakacek and Martin Phelan, and sister-in-law, Mary Specht. He is survived by his wife, Faith Specht of Marcus, his son Steven (Amanda) Specht of Fort Dodge, his granddaughters, Sydney, Drue and Tayte Specht, brothers Vincent (Joanne) Specht of Henderson, NV and Robert Specht of Brentwood, CA, brother-in-law, Amato Teta of Lemon Grove, CA, sisters-in-law, Madonna Kakacek of Pocahontas, IA, Mary Lea Phelan of Urbandale, IA, and Juanita (Greg) McCabe of Johnston, IA, brothers-in-law, Virgil Wagner of Pocahontas, IA, Richard (Geri) Wagner of San Diego, CA, and Loren (Rosalita) Wagner of Urbandale, IA, as well as many nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends. Memorials may be directed to the MS Society of Iowa and the Marcus Historical Society.
SERVICES
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, June 18, 2013, at Holy Name Catholic Church in Marcus, IA.

VISITATION
Visitation will begin at 3 P.M. Monday, with the family present from 5-7 P.M. Monday night at the Greenwood-Schubert Fuenral Home in Marcus. There will be a prayer service at 7 P.M. Monday night at the funeral home.
