Donald B. Johnson

May 20, 1924 — February 11, 2015

Donald Bruce Johnson, the son of Andrew and Henrietta (Braaks), was born May 20, 1924, in Hartford, SD. His childhood years were spent in Hartford, and he graduated as Valedictorian of his class at Hartford High School. He then served his country for three years as a pilot in the Naval Air Corps. He was united in marriage to Georgia Hansen in February of 1947. The early years of their marriage were spent in Iowa City, IA, while Don attended pharmacy school. As he had done in high school, he graduated as Valedictorian from the University of Iowa. The couple then moved to Cherokee where they raised their family, and Don worked for the McWilliams Drug Store. He eventually purchased the business, and remained there until his retirement in 2003. He enjoyed golf, crossword puzzles, watching the Iowa Hawkeyes, socializing at the Cherokee Country Club, and cocktails with friends. Georgia passed away in 2009. When his own health began to fail, Don was lovingly cared for by the staff at the Cherokee Villa Nursing and Rehab Center. He passed away there on Wednesday, February 11, 2014, at the age of 90. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, a sister, Shirley and grandson, Gavin. Survivors include his three children and their families: James (Marlys) Johnson of Coeur'd Alene, ID, Jeff (Marlene) Johnson of Phoenix, AZ, and Chris Reno of Englewood, CO; his grandchildren, Kelli, Jeff, Natalie and Emily Johnson, and Nathan Reno; four great-grandchildren, Devon, Jay, Josie and Georgia Johnson.
