Dennis "Denny" Timmins, age 77, of Cherokee, IA passed away on Sunday, September 10, 2023, at his home in Cherokee, IA. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, September 15, 2023, at Immaculate Conception Church in Cherokee, IA. Father Dan Rupp will officiate. Visitation will begin at 4:00 p.m. Thursday, with family present from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at the Greenwood-Schubert Funeral Home in Cherokee, IA. There will be a 7:00 p.m. prayer service following visitation at the funeral home. The Greenwood-Schubert Funeral Home in Cherokee, IA is assisting the family with arrangements. Dennis Michael Timmins was born on January 11, 1946, in Council Bluffs, Iowa to Thomas Joseph (Joe) Timmins and Lois Eleanor (Calmer) Timmins. His family moved to Cherokee, IA when he was two and a half years old. Denny attended Immaculate Conception School and graduated in 1964.
Denny married Linda Jean Bechtel on April 20, 1968. They were blessed with two sons, Marc and Jeffrey. They have three grandchildren: Morgan and Brayden (Marc and Lisa) and Caden (Jeff and Keri).
Under the direction of Bill Grawberg, Denny began his career in accounting. He then continued his career with First Abstract and Loan in 1976 and later became a partner with Kathy Peterson after the retirement of George Hoyt in 1991. In 2014, Denny retired from the Abstract office.
Denny enjoyed spending time with his family, extended family, and lifelong friends. His wit and sense of humor provided enjoyment for everyone around. He also liked to play cards, bowl, golf, and fish. Denny and Linda loved summers in Okoboji and entertaining many friends and family for thirty years. Denny enjoyed driving his Cadillac every morning touring the surrounding towns. Teasing his nieces and nephews was one of his greatest pleasures.
Denny passed away peacefully after a lengthy illness at his home surrounded by his family at the age of 77 years. He is preceded in death by his parents Joe and Lois; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Jerry and Betty Bechtel, brothers-in-law, Chuck Spence, Mike Bechtel and nephew, Nick Nordstrom.
Denny will be remembered by his loving wife of fifty-five years, Linda, sons Marc (Lisa) of Omaha, NE and Jeff (Keri) of Des Moines, IA; grandchildren: Morgan, Brayden and Caden Timmins; brothers: Larry (Judy) Timmins of Cedar Falls, IA, Tracy (Kara) Timmins of Victoria, TX, sisters: Trudy Timmins of Lakewood, WA, Penny (Timmins) Nordstrom of Spirit Lake, IA, and Heidi Paeper of Lakewood, WA; brothers and sisters-in-law: Jerry and Diana Thorne of Arbor Vitae, WI, Joyce Bechtel, Denise Green, both of Cherokee, IA, Wayne and Kris Meylor of Milford, IA, Dan Bechtel and Sue Laursen of Larrabee, IA; and numerous nieces and nephews. Special friends, Mary Beth and Chris Hanner of Sioux City, IA, and Mary Lee Simoni of Lawton, IA. Denny considered Mary Beth as his daughter and Mary Lee as a granddaughter.
