Delmar Henry Meyer, age 70 of rural Meriden, IA, passed away Wednesday, October 30, 2024, at his residence. A memorial gathering will take place from 3:00 - 5:00 p.m. Sunday November 3, 2024, at the Greenwood-Schubert Funeral Home in Cherokee, IA. Burial will take place at Timber Lake Cemetery in Timber Lake, SD, at a later date. The Greenwood-Schubert Funeral Home in Cherokee, IA, is assisting the family with arrangements. Delmar was born on September 25, 1954, to Carl and Adelaide (Kuni) Meyer at Timber Lake, South Dakota. He received his education at Timber Lake public school until 1968 when the family moved to Cleghorn, IA and he graduated from Meriden – Cleghorn High School in 1972. He continued his education by attending Northwest Iowa Community College and received his diploma from mechanical school in 1975.
Delmar worked for the Farmers Co-op in Cleghorn while attending college. He opened Del’s repair on the outskirts of Meriden until Hwy 3 was closed for resurfacing. Del then worked as a Massey-Ferguson mechanic at Dorr’s Implement until the business closed. He managed the Co-op convenience store until its closure. Del then became employed at Builders Sharpening as a small engine repairman. This employment lasted 30 years until Del retired in 2021. He also did part time duties as a bus driver for MMC as well as helping farmers haul grain in the fall.
Delmar loved cats and several of them loved to call Del’s farm their home. With Del being the only boy and the youngest, he was looked after and received love as “little brother” from his older sisters.
Delmar Meyer passed away on October 30, 2024, in his home, after a courageous yearlong battle with cancer. He was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Adelaide; brothers-in-law, Marvin Pahl, Ray Gustin, Bill Sutherland and Mert Chalmers.
Delmar is survived by his sisters, June Pahl of Wright, WY, Carol Warren of Ft. Dodge, Thelma (Titus) Allen of Cary, NC, LuElla (Jim) Rolfes of LeMars, IA, Shirley Chalmers of Durham, NC, numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
The family of Delmar would like to thank everyone for for their support both in thought and deed during this difficult time. Please accept this as our formal thank you from the family. We sincerely appreciate the kind gestures shown to our family.
