David Gerald Carey

December 12, 1945 — December 8, 2021

David Carey, 75, succumbed to his fight with cancer on Wednesday, December 8, 2021, at home with his wife Carol of 55 years by his side. Dave was born December 12, 1945 in Cherokee, where he grew up & later raised his own family. He was preceded in death by his parents Gerald & Gladys Carey, his sister Carol Carey Mattioda, in-laws Roman & Lucille Tentinger, brother in-laws Jim Tentinger & Tim Kelley.

Dave enjoyed fishing, camping, boating, road trips and 50’s music. Growing up in Cherokee, Dave spent much of his youth at his father’s Buick dealership, where he found his lifelong passion for all things cars. David was also the co-founder of Furniture Place currently known as Carey’s Furniture.

Dave is survived by his loving wife Carol, children; Julie Bradstreet, Kevin Carey, Trudy (Chad) Pederson, Chad (Kelli) Carey, Jay (Lindsey) Carey, Rick Mattioda, 21 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.

SERVICES

A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10:30 a.m. Monday, December 13, 2021, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Cherokee, Iowa.

VISITATION

Public visitation will begin at 4:00 p.m. Sunday, with family present from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Sunday night at the Greenwood-Schubert Funeral Home in Cherokee. There will be a prayer service and rosary following the vistiation Sunday night.
