David Christy Peters was born in LeMars, IA on May 6, 1922, the son of Jay and Cora (Christy) Peters of Marcus, IA. He attended the local schools and graduated with the class of 1939. He proudly served in the U.S. Navy during WW II, and was stationed in the Pacific.
On April 30, 1943, he was united in marriage to Betty Jane Bramhall of Oak Park, IL. He spent his career as a flight engineer for American Airlines. Later in their retirement years, the couple returned to Marcus where David lovingly cared for Betty Jane during her struggle with Alzheimer's disease. He loved taking road trips to visit family around the country--with the camper and cats in tow. David lived a good life with many great friends. He enjoyed bowling during his younger years. He especially enjoyed spending his time golfing, lunch with his friends at the congregate meals, the local coffee shop gatherings, and sitting with his cats. He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Marcus.
Following a brief illness, David passed away at the Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City, IA on Sunday, May 19, 2013 at age 91. He was preceded in death by his parents Jay and Cora Peters, his wife Betty Jane, a brother Jerry Peters and grandson Peter John Merrick.
He is survived by two sons David (Patty) Peters Jr. of Apache Junction, AZ, and Michael (Carol) Peters of Pearl, IL, and three daughters, Niki (Larry) Merrick and Bunny (Steve) Schubert, all of Oak Park, IL and Dru Johnson of Bolingbrook, IL; 11 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren; numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. He will surely be missed by his family and friends.
