Darwin Paeper

Darwin Dean Paeper, the son of Chris and Leone (Spencer) Paeper, was born on November 3, 1943, in Sioux City, IA. He grew up in Newell, IA, and graduated from Newell High School in 1962. On October 11, 1963, he was united in marriage to Beverly Waterman at the Methodist Church in Newell. They lived in Storm Lake, Newell and Ida Grove, before settling in Cherokee, IA. Darwin knew the value of hard work. His career included working for the railroad in Storm Lake, as an assistant at the Mental Health Institute in Cherokee, and at the landfill in Cherokee. When he wasn't working, Darwin enjoyed fishing, hunting and he especially liked being around cars. His first job was in his dad's body shop. He had a deep love for his family, and loved being a husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Following a difficult battle with a heart condition, Darwin passed away at his home in Cherokee on Saturday, September 26, 2015. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and a brother. He is survived by his wife Beverly; his children: Larry (Lisa Ashley) of Cherokee, Mike (Laura) of Milford, IA, and Lisa Westcott (Kevin Kroll) of Cherokee; grandchildren: Chris Paeper, Amanda Paeper, John Friedrichsen, Brooke Paeper, Trent Sutter, Josh (Michelle) Sauter, James Westcott, Michael Paeper, Jr., Dana (Lindsey) Wendt, Ashley (Matt) Cooke, and Sara (Kyle) Meyer; two brothers, Arlo Paeper of Omaha, NE and Jim Shipley of Minneapolis, MN; two step-sisters, Betty Dahlke and Colleen Blackbird; 11 great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends.
