Dale L. Bakker Jr. the son of Dale and Patricia (Neustrom) Bakker, was born on June 8, 1952, in Cherokee, IA. His childhood years were spent in Cherokee where he attended school and graduated from Washington High School. Following graduation, he was drafted by the U.S. Army where he served our country until his honorable discharge in 1975.
On August 28, 1973, Dale was united in marriage to Lauren Sorensen at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Cherokee. Dale worked for Wilson's Foods for many years. He then attended Western Iowa Tech in Sioux City where he earned his Associates Degree in electronic communications. He then went to work as a councilor for the Boys and Girls Home and Midwest Christian Children's Home. Dale's calling was helping young troubled adolescents. He cherished the opportunity to help and mentor any child that he could
Dale enjoyed fishing, gardening, playing cards, spending time at the farm, his dogs, and joking around. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, especially his grandchildren.
On Tuesday, January 28, 2014, Dale passed away at Countryside Estates surrounded by his family. He was 61. He was preceded in death by his mother, Patricia Bakker; his grandparents; several aunts and uncles; and his special dog, Kolby.
He will be lovingly remembered by his wife Lauren Bakker of Cherokee, IA; his children, Christi (Kyle) Herzog of Le Mars, IA, and Jeremy (Stacey) Bakker of Cedar Rapids, IA; grandchildren, Emily, Kennedy, and Caleb; his father, Dale Bakker Sr.. and his wife Marion of Cherokee, IA; his siblings, Mick (Sue) Bakker, Barb Timmins and special friends Ron Henderson, Cindy (Harry) Sizeland, John Bakker, Deb Green, Tom (Jacque) Bakker, and Linda Rupp and special friend Mark Murphy; his in-laws, Loren (Judy) Sorensen, Marcene (Paul) Means, Martee Heinse, Dawn (Dale) Henke, Richard Sorensen; several nieces and nephews; other relatives; and friends.
SERVICES
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. Saturday, February 1, 2014, at the Greenwood-Schubert Funeral Home in Cherokee.
