Connie Rae Anderson

Connie Rae Anderson, age 88 of Cherokee, IA, passed away Wednesday, October 11, 2023, at her residence surrounded by her family. Memorial services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Monday, October 16, 2023, at the First Baptist Church in Cherokee. Pastor Mark Leeds will officiate. Burial will be at Oak Hill Cemetery in Cherokee, IA. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. The Greenwood-Schubert Funeral Home in Cherokee, IA, is assisting the family with arrangements. Connie Rae Anderson, age 88, passed away on October 11, 2023, at her home in Cherokee, IA with her family around her.  Connie was born on July 21, 1935, to Darlene (Butcher) Jurgenson and Clifford Jurgenson.  Her dad delivered her in their county home in Akron, IA.  She attended a country school in Brunsville, IA for eight years. 

Connie married Lester Anderson on March 16, 1953, in LeMars, IA.  They lived in Hawarden, IA their first six years of marriage before moving to Cherokee, IA where they made their home.  Together they had six children.  Connie had her hands full with their children and after-school activities.  They would have a family fun day on Saturdays where they would go swimming, sledding, and have cookouts with friends.

The house would always smell good when the children would come home from school.  Connie loved to bake cookies, bars, and home-made bread.  Baking was her favorite pastime.  She also always had a large garden, raised chickens, and did a lot of butchering.  Every Sunday, they went to church.  The family felt safe, secure, and loved every day.

Connie worked at Greg’s Nursing Home as a CAN and was a volunteer at MidSioux for 27 years.  She also worked at the front desk at CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate). Many knew her and saw her as a caring, helpful, loving person.  Connie received many plaques and a diploma for her achievements. 

As Connie’s grandchildren and great-grandchildren grew, there was lots of joy and love.  Many memories of softball, baseball, football games, musical concerts, camping and hayrides.  She will be missed.

Connie was preceded in death by her husband, Lester, son, Terry Anderson; three sisters and a brother. 

She will be lovingly remembered by her family, Deb and Steve Robb of Cherokee, IA, Myron Anderson of Cleghorn, IA, Lois and Ed Pinkerton of Quimby, IA, Cindy Hydrava of Cherokee, IA and Mike and Becky Anderson of Cherokee, IA; 17 grandchildren, 34 Great-Grandchildren and 6 Great Great-Grandchildren; other family members and friends.  Her loving pet, Princess will be laid to rest next to her.
