Charles 'Chuck' Henry Massmann

June 2, 1939 — January 10, 2013

Charles "Chuck" Henry Massmann, 73 of Cherokee passed away on January 10, 2013 in Cherokee. Chuck was born June 2, 1939 in rural Paullina, IA to Melborn and Henrietta (Fegebank) Massmann. He attended school in Paullina and was later drafted into the US Army and served during the Cuban Crisis. Upon completion in the Army, Chuck came home and farmed with his dad. On January 20, 1971, he married Betty Lou (Hopkins) Fischer in Sioux Falls, SD. They made their home in Calumet, IA but Chuck continued to farm with his dad. Betty passed away in 2009. Chuck then made his home in Cherokee. Chuck was a farmer at heart, he loved planting and watching things growl He was known for his produce out of the garden which he shared with everyone. Living in Cherokee he became everyone's handyman. There wasn't anything too big or small that he wouldn't tackle if it meant helping someone. His green thumb also spread to the kitchen where he could be found cooking up meals or baking to share. His thoughtfulness and gentle spirit will be missed by family and all who knew him. Chuck is survived by sisters Phyllis Parrott, Cherokee; Pearl (Ron) Henke, Marcus; Lynette (Ron) Ross, Joplin, MO; Betty Massmann, Cherokee' and one brother Don (Marge) Massmann of Widefield, CO. Chuck is also survived by several nieces and nephews, aunts and cousins. Chuck was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Lou; his parents; brother Clifford Massmann; brother-in-law Jerry Parrott, sister-in-law Nancy Massmann; niece Angie Henke and great-nephew Cole Gries.
