Celesta Elizabeth Rupp, the daughter of Joseph and Clara (Hansen) Schroeder was born on January 8, 1920, on the family farm near Remsen. She was raised near Remsen and attended school at Remsen St. Mary's. After her schooling, Celesta assisted in farm work for family and domestic work for neighbors.
On January 24, 1953, Celesta was united in marriage to Wilmer Rupp in Remsen. Following their marriage, they moved to the Maryhill area where she helped farm and raise their children.
Celesta was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Cherokee, a member of Christian Mothers, and also on the Maryhill and I.C. Women's Guild. She enjoyed gardening, canning, and quilting. She loved to play cards and was on several card clubs. She also volunteered at the Villa for many years playing cards with some of the residents. Most of all she loved spending time with her family and friends.
On August 26, 2017, Celesta passed away at the Cherokee Specialty Clinic at the age of 97. She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Clara Schroeder; husband, Wilmer Rupp; brother, Silverius Schroeder; son-in-law, Larry Miller; sisters-in-law, Marcella (Ralph) Glover, and Mildred Rupp; and one brother-in-law, Louis Rupp.
She is survived by her four children: Marilyn Rupp of Cherokee, IA, Cathy Rupp and Donna Miller, both of Remsen, IA, and Allan (Jean) Rupp of Cherokee, IA; four grandchildren: Chris (Michaelle) Miller of Sioux City, IA, Lindsay (Milet) Kracht of Hartley, IA, Scott (Lindsey) Rupp of Norwalk, IA, and Andy (Diana) Miller of Bellevue, IA; five great-grandchildren; two brothers, Irvin (Norma) Schroeder, of Remsen, IA, and Gilbert (Paula) Schroeder of Remsen, IA; and many nieces and nephews.
SERVICES
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday August 29, 2017, at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Cherokee.

VISITATION
Visitation will be held from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. Monday night at the Greenwood-Schubert Funeral Home in Cherokee. There will be a rosary at 4:00 p.m. and a 7:00 prayer service at the funeral home Monday.
